NAICS and SIC Codes

NAICS and SIC codes classify industries.  Many resources that have industry information use these codes to classify and organize information.  Knowing your industry's codes can help you find the information you need about your industry.

Find your NAICS Code
Search for your North American Industry Classification code by keyword or 2-6 digit code, from the US Census.

Find your SIC Code
Search for your Standard Industrial Classification code by keyword or 2-4 digit code, from OSHA.

Help Choosing Your Industry

Choosing an Industry

Use CareerOneStop, especially the section Browse Occupations (Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor)

  • "Offers occupation and industry information, salary data, career videos, and other career education resources."

Use the Occupational Outlook Handbook (Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor)
"For hundreds of different types of jobs—such as teacher, lawyer, and nurse," the Occupational Outlook Handbook tells you:

  • The training and education needed
  • Earnings
  • Expected job prospects
  • What workers do on the job
  • Working conditions
