Diversity in Graphic Novels and Comics: Race

Resources to help you locate, create and learn more about graphic novels with diversity themes in the IU Southeast Library collections.

Race

Race is a classification of dividing people by different physical characteristics and genetic ancestries.

In the United States beliefs in racial differences allowed the institution of slavery, of an African American majority, to continue for centuries in the New World.  Rights of African Americans had to be specifically iterated in law to help start the process towards ending racial discrimination.

In other countries and cultures, different races may be in conflict or have a history of conflict.
