The IU Southeast Library is open only to IU faculty, staff, and students at this time as a physical location of last resort for completing academic work.  

Library Operations

Changes regarding the Library Building

  • Only the 2nd (main) floor is open.  To make an appointment to use the technology in a group study rooms (for individual use only), please contact a reference librarian.
  • Only IU Southeast students, faculty, and staff are allowed in the library at this time.  While we are open, we do ask that you only come into the library if you need access to the technology available within.
  • Please wash your hands immediately upon entering the building.
  • Clean any equipment used with the wipes provided before and after use.
  • Please practice social distancing - stay at least 6 feet from others. 
  • Effective June 1, 2020, everyone is required to wear a cloth face covering in all IU buildings, including the Library, in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Physical Library Materials

  • Get IUS Books Mailed to Your Home: Faculty, students, and staff can request physical IU Southeast Library items be mailed to their homes.  Additional information about this service and the request form is available here.
  • Online Access through HathiTrust: Indiana University students, faculty, and staff can also access books that IU Libraries own in print through HathiTrust Digital Library's Emergency Temporary Access.  Log in (select Indiana University as your partner institution) to HathiTrust for access. Users can read the book online in a web browser, but will not be able to download the work in full. Check out periods are in one-hour increments, which can be extended as long as another user has not requested access. The books accessed through Emergency Temporary Access Service are made available under the fair use sections of the United States Copyright Act. Copyright protections still exist for many of these books.
  • UPDATED! Request Delivery & ALF Requests: As of August 10, 2020, Request Delivery and ALF Requests in IUCAT are now available.  You can now request that items from other IU campuses (including the ALF) be delivered to the IU Southeast Library for contact-less pick up in IUCAT. 
  • Interlibrary Loan: Interlibrary loan of physical books will no longer be available during this time.  We are still providing interlibrary loan services for articles.
  • Returning Library Books: We are encouraging you to wait to return books until you come back to campus in August; however, if you do need to return books sooner, you can use either of the book drops.  There is one by the bus stop, and the other is to the left of the main entrance to the Library.
  • Late Fines: The library will forgive fines for materials returned late during this period. 
  • Access to Government Documents: From March 16th, we will not be able to provide access to physical items in our Federal depository library collection to the general public.  Access to our online Government information is available as usual through our Government Information website, other LibGuides, and our catalog. Questions about Government information will be answered by a reference librarian by telephone (812-941-2489 - leave a message and we will return your call) or our Ask a Librarian service).

ILTE

  • The ILTE staff will be working remotely and are available by email, phone, or Zoom from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. 
  • They are offering virtual Q&A sessions about moving your courses online every Tuesday starting on March 31, from 12 p.m.-2 p.m.
