Downloading eBooks: Getting Started

This guide provides instructions for downloading eBooks found through IUCAT or Library eBook platforms to multiple devices.

The IU Southeast Library now offers the ability to download and read eBooks from the EBSCOhost and ebrary platforms on numerous eReaders, tablets, and other mobile devices.  Search in IUCAT (limiting search to Online Only), EBSCOhost, or ebrary to find an eBook and follow the instructions in this LibGuide to download it to your tablet, eReader, phone, and more.

The steps in this section are required for downloading eBooks to any eReader or mobile device.  (Note that these steps are if you have never downloaded an ebook to your device before.)

 

For All eBooks:

Step 1. A free Adobe account is needed to download eBooks from both ebrary and EBSCOhost:

1.  Go to Adobe: http://adobe.ly/9xXHgv.

2.  Click on the Don't have an Adobe ID? link.

3.  Fill out and submit the form, taking care to remember the Email address and Password used in creating the account.

 

For Ebrary eBooks

Step 2a. Downloading ebrary eBooks requires a free ebrary account:

1.  Go to ebrary.

2.  If off-campus, enter your IU Southeast username and password (the same one you use for OneStart & Oncourse) when prompted.

3.  On the main ebrary page, click the Sign In link in the top right menu.

4.  On the Sign In page, you can either sign in using your Facebook account, or click on the Create an Account link.

5.  Fill out and submit the form, taking care to remember your Username and Password.

 

For EBSCOhost eBooks

Step 2b. Downloading EBSCOhost eBooks requires a free EBSCO account:

1.  Go to EBSCOhost.

2.  If off-campus, enter your IU Southeast username and password (the same one you use for OneStart & Oncourse) when prompted.

3.  On the main EBSCOhost page, click the Sign In link in the top right menu.

4.  On the Sign In page, click the Create a new Account link.

5.  Fill out and submit the form, taking care to remember your Username, Password, and Secret Question/Answer.
