The Indiana Bicentennial Institute is planned to incorporate one or more educator from each of Indiana’s 92 counties in a campus-based professional development program sponsored by ten IN based professional education organizations.

Guided Tour of the Bicentennial Institute:  Program in Brief for Educators and Youth: 

Saturday, July 11, AM/PM and Sunday, July 12 AM—Pre-conference tour opportunities with lodging available on campus; participants enrolling in the Bicentennial Institute classes will meet all day Saturday in the CCR-IUS Library; all participants will meet Sunday, 4:30-5:30 in the Hoosier Room-University Center North for Map and Timeline Instructions.  All sessions will be held in this room unless otherwise noted.

Sunday, July 12, PM Arrival:  Focus on Volunteer Tours for Campus Orientations and Explanations of Map Project

    *Registration for IUS Course Credit and other certifications (Robin Fankhauser) (Neil Brewer—Instructor)

    *Demonstration Session on Map and Timeline Building

    *Buffet and Speaker (Judy O’Bannon) following brief welcomes from Chan. Wallace and Institute Partners (Planners)

    as Special Guests

Monday, July 13—Focus on Clarksville and Jeffersonville: Falls of Ohio Fossil Tour and Box Lunch, followed by rotating stations at the George Rogers Clark Cabin and Site.   

  *Feature Speaker in AM:  Focus on Native Americans of Indiana

  *Choice of Small Group Sessions (hosts for speakers) Rehearsal for L&C Trials of the Trail by Youth

  *Local Drivers leading Car Caravans to Falls Area with Script of significant points to note while driving

  *Presentation of L&C Trail by Youth Group (impersonations) 

 *PM Optional Tours or Planning Time with Consultants—(Clark County Historian) and Dinner OYO (On Your Own)

Tuesday, July 14—Focus on Corydon and Beck’s Mill Iron Pot Cookout

*Briefings on Schedule (Script of significant points to note while enroute)

*Local Drivers leading Car Caravans to Corydon for rotating sites and Youth Day in Brown School

*Rotations in Capitol, Governor’s Home, Constitutional Elm, Cemetery and Brown School/Buffet Lunch

 *Summary at Yellow Court House near Frank O’Bannon Monument (Harrison County Historian)

 *Optional Tours or Planning with Consultants on Camus

*Travel to Beck’s Mill, Tour and Soup Cookout

*More Optional Planning Time with Consultants (Harrison County Historian)

Wednesday, July 15—Focus on Downtown New Albany

 *Local Drivers leading Car Caravans to downtown New Albany with script of significant points to note while driving

 *Breakfast at the Old Town Church (Park in the Y Lot)

 *Rotations to Culbertson Mansion, Carnegie Museum and Architectural Street Tour starting and ending at the Scribner                      

                 House; Lunch OYO; and Follow David’s Red Mustang to Fairview Cemetery

 *Optional Tours and/or Planning Time with Consultants (Floyd County Historian) at IUS

 *Pizza Party (sponsored by GENI) and Evening of Sharing and Walking Presentations by Youth

Thursday, July 16—Focus on Indiana Authors and State Plans

*Speakers on Indiana Leaders (new Bicentennial Book) assisted by Youth

*Sharing with exhibits of plans

*Exit Brunch and Certificates

Thursday PM and Friday, July 16 and 17—Post-Institute Opportunities (Lodges by arrangement with tourist information available)

All July 12-16 Events are included in the Institute Registration Fee.  Guests may register for one- day events for a fee of $25 per day or meal events only for published price.
