Collection Development Policy

Social Justice & Diversity Collection

The IU Southeast Library’s Social Justice & Diversity Collection was created in 2020 as a partnership between the Office of Equity and Diversity and the Library to highlight to users the Library’s continued dedication to diversity and equity within collections. As such, this collection development outlines the goals and expectations of this collection. It should be noted that this collection does not encompass the entirety of diversity and equity within library collections and that librarians have (and will continue) to add titles with these topics to the general collection.

Annually:

  • Librarians will curate a list of 26 new titles to add to this collection.
    • These 26 titles will be a balanced mixture of children’s, young adult, and adult titles.
    • Consideration will also be given to titles that include eBook format to support accessibility and ease of embedding titles into curriculum.
  • In addition to being viewable in IUCAT, these titles will also be added to the Social Justice & Diversity LibGuide.
  • The User Engagement Librarian will send each year’s list to the Director of the Office of Equity and Diversity.
