The Library provides access to many different types of content, including ebooks, streaming videos, and journals. You can check to see if we have a specific ebook or film using IUCAT (see caveats below regarding simultaneous use and direct linking). You can also link to journals in our subscription databases as well.

It's possible that we may have an ebook version of a title you assign for a course, or may be able to purchase an ebook version. Check our catalog IUCAT or ask Kate Ziady if you're not seeing it as available.
If you are designing a new course (or redesigning a course you've taught before), feel free to send a list of texts you are considering to Kate Ziady to see which, if any, can be made available to your students at no cost to them.
Caveat - Check for Simultaneous User Restrictions
Before assigning your class to read an ebook that's available through the Library, you may want to check on the number of simultaneous users who can access the ebook. This information is not in IUCAT, but is usually on the publisher's platform (e.g., a statement like, "Your institution has unlimited access to this book"). Contact a librarian if you're not sure or don't see a note like this.
Caveat - Linking to the Ebook
Unlike with most web pages, referring students to the link you see in your browser address window is likely to fail. The link from the browser might not work at a different time and place. It also might not work from off campus. Generally, using the IUCAT URL alleviates this issue, though it does require students to go through an additional step for access to ebook. (You might also want to make sure students are aware that they need to use the link you provided for access, rather than bookmarking the ebook.)
If you experience problems accessing an ebook, please check in with a librarian.
You can also place print copies of the book on reserve at the Library for students who prefer reading a print copy.
Many ebooks in our collection have been purchased and are owned by the library in perpetuity; however, we do have some ebooks that are available through a subscription. Normally, this isn't a big deal, but there is a small chance that books accessed via a subscription service will "disappear" from the collection. To confirm whether we have perpetual access to an ebook, check in with Kate Ziady.
In general, our films are searchable in IUCAT (though some titles are loaded quarterly, and so IUCAT may not be completely up to date). Ask Kate Ziady if you're not seeing a title you would like to use in your course as available, or if the title in Kanopy, you can request that we purchase it through their online form. See the Kanopy FAQ for more details.
All of our films are available for unlimited simultaneous use (meaning everyone in your class can watch it online at the same time).
Note that when no streaming options are available, the IU Southeast Library has a digitization and streaming service that will digitize complete video recordings when certain conditions are met.
To browse our film collection, you can check out our full list of collections that contain video sources using our Article & Database Search (limiting to streaming video as the Database Type).
