The Echo smartpen only works with special paper called "dot paper."
This special notebook paper is printed with a unique pattern of microdots, which allow your smartpen to capture everything you write or draw. You will get one free notebook when you check out the smartpen from the library. If you need an additional notebook, you can print paper from the Echo Desktop software.
At the bottom of every page are several buttons that you can "click" by tapping the tip of your smartpen to the printed image on the page. Each page has buttons for Record, Pause, Stop, Menu navigation, and others. These allow you to record and play back audio from that page and to navigate the smartpen's menu.
On the back cover of each notebook, there are extra features like a complete settings tab, display options, audio options, a navigator and a keyboard.
