a. First, plug the USB-3 (oval) cable to your smartpen. The USB-3 port is located on end of the pen.
b. Then connect the other end of the cable (standard USB) into your computer, to fully charge it.
c. A battery and lightning bolt symbol will display on your smartpen when it is charging. A full charge can take up to 2.5 hours.
IMPORTANT! Only charge the smartpen on your computer or with a battery pack.
DO NOT plug the smartpen is plug into an AC Wall Adapter. It can damage the smartpen to the point that it will not work anymore. If this happens, you will be subject to pay to replace the smartpen.
1. Visit https://us.livescribe.com/pages/livescribe (scroll down to download software.) Note: you will only be able to download the LiveScribe software on your personal computer. Faculty & staff will need to ask UITS to install software on their office computer/laptop.
2. Choose either the Windows or Mac OS version of the software.
3. Save the install file to your desktop or downloads folder.
4. Double-click the install file after downloading (should be named something like "Livescribe+_Desktop_Setup_v1#.#.#").
5. Click the next button when prompted and agree to the terms and conditions.
6. Click next and wait while the software installs.
7. After installation, a Livescribe Desktop icon should appear on your desktop.
8. Double-click this icon to open the software.
The Livescribe+ app is also available in the Apple App store for iPhones & iPads and the Google Play Store for Android devices.
1. Open the Livescribe+ app.
2. Go to “pen manager” (pen icon on the left hand pane).
3. Click on “Bluetooth connect” (pen icon).
4. Click the actual -physical- pen on the “pairing” icon on the control “card”.
5. The computer should pop up a window, asking for permission to add Bluetooth device. Open that window and give permission.
6. The pen should then pop up in the “pen manager” window, click on it, then click on the “pair” button.
You should now be able to use the pen to take notes and record pencasts.
To record a pencast -
The SmartPen has started recording sound and you can start taking notes as if you were writing in any other notebook with a regular pen.
To pause or stop a pencast -
The smartpen will stop recording and will automatically save the session to the pen, and will transfer the session to your computer next time you are connected with the micro USB and have the Echo Desktop open. Handwriting with accompanying sound will show up as green in Echo Desktop.
You can hear the audio by tapping the pen tip to any point in your notes. Use the Volume buttons on the notebook page to adjust the volume. Optionally, you can plug in headphones in the 3mm headphone jack on top of the pen.
You can also use the Playback Speed and Jump to Position buttons on the notebook page to navigate through the audio.
